A great and very charming fish! They are small and wormlike, so you can't keep them with large fish that might try to eat them, but you can keep them in tanks as small as 5 gallons (so long as you are careful with not stocking too much else). Especially shy when first bought...you may not see them for a week at a time, especially in a sparsely planted tank.
These are very hardy fish, however, and they quickly adjust (especially when kept in small groups), busying themselves bottom feeding industriously or swimming to and fro in the front of the tank in no time. They do like to dig, so it helps if you provide some soft substrate for them to do so in that won't hurt their delicate barbels. They will eat an assortment of foods, and love worm treats, but the best way to make sure they are fed properly is to drop in a catfish tablet at night, since they're primarily nocturnal.
Great for beginners, but a covered tank is a must. These little restless guys can and will slide up the tank corners and end up on the floor otherwise!
