Kribensis
Pelvicachromis pulcher

The kribensis (or "krib" for short) is a very pretty little cichlid. They show their markings, which include a pink little belly, best when breeding (at other times, they are a drabber color with a stripe).

Though it is from Africa, it does not require the degree of hardness that most other African cichlids need to do well, but kribs will like it just slightly brackish. They are beautiful and pretty hardy from my experience, though the pair I had was years ago. They are normally relatively peaceful, but are very quarrelsome during breeding times, when the active pair will chase other fish away. They like to breed in caves or deposit their eggs in flowerpots, and guard their broods actively, being great parents as cichlids usually are.
