This is arguably the most beautiful of the Tridacna clams, and come with many blue patterns, some downright outlandish and striking. I had a very cute little 3" Maxima that was doing very well in my 55gal tank (had grown about an inch on planktonic feedings), but after the big move to the 60gal tank, it came unglued from the live rock it was nestled in and never was the same after that.
One day, I found that it had gotten knocked out and was face down in the sand, and by then, it was too late and the hermits had gotten to it. Even with the bad experiences I had with the two clams I kept, I have found them overall not to be as difficult to keep as I would have though, and would very much like to get another Maxima clam; they are just expensive, and I am debating whether or not to spend the $70+ on a very beautiful large maxima to replace this one. Like other clams, it should be kept only in tanks with good lighting.
